One of the most special things about Red Balloon Worthing is our location. Nestled just a few minutes from the seafront, we’re able to offer learners regular outdoor experiences by the coast — and we make the most of it.
From gentle beach walks and seaside sketching to science lessons in the sand and mindfulness by the waves, our outdoor learning programme helps learners reconnect with the world in a peaceful, grounding way.
Nature-based learning supports both mental health and academic growth. We’ve seen learners who struggle indoors suddenly light up during a nature scavenger hunt or beach-based maths activity. Others find calm in the rhythmic sound of the waves — a natural form of sensory regulation.
We always adapt each outing to suit the needs of the group. Some learners prefer quiet one-to-one walks, while others enjoy collecting shells, taking photos, or writing poetry by the sea.
“Walking by the sea helps me clear my head. It’s the best part of my week.”
These visits aren’t just relaxing — they’re meaningful. They help build confidence, improve attendance, and reconnect learners with their local environment and community.
