September always brings a sense of a fresh start.

At Red Balloon Worthing, we’re delighted to welcome our learners back for a new academic year, as well as welcoming new learners and members of staff into our community.

For some young people, coming back after the summer can feel exciting. For others, particularly those who have previously found education difficult, a new term can bring uncertainty or anxiety.

That’s why the beginning of the year is about much more than getting straight back into lessons.

Finding your feet

Every learner arrives at Red Balloon Worthing with their own experiences, strengths and challenges.

There is no expectation that everyone will settle in at exactly the same pace.

The early weeks are an opportunity to get to know one another, rebuild routines, develop relationships and help learners feel comfortable in their environment.

For new learners in particular, even relatively small steps can feel significant. Getting through the door, meeting new people or taking part in something unfamiliar can all be achievements worth recognising.

More than academic learning

Throughout the year, our learners will have opportunities to work towards their academic goals, but life at Red Balloon Worthing is about much more than qualifications alone.

Building confidence, developing independence, discovering interests, forming relationships and thinking about the future are all important parts of the journey.

We want our learners to feel that they belong and that their individual strengths are recognised.

Looking ahead

A new academic year brings new opportunities, new challenges and plenty of moments we’re looking forward to sharing.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing more from life at Red Balloon Worthing, including learner activities and achievements, events, projects and news from our community.

Most importantly, we’re looking forward to seeing where this year takes each of our learners.

Here’s to a positive new year at Red Balloon Worthing.
